Saturday, April 1

Cherry and The Lowboys. Calapooia Brewing Company, 140 Hill St. NE, Albany. 8 p.m. Free.

Their Reverb Nation page (https://www.reverbnation.com/cherryandthelowboys) says they “serve up greasy grooves inspired by classic hot rod culture,” and I’d have to concur. The first song I listened to, “Attack of the Boogie Monster,” was a blast and definitely greasy as hell… like a food cart burrito that looks like it could kill you, and may actually do so one day. Absolutely great stuff. For more greasy info, visit calapooiabrewing.com/blog/live-music-and-events/.

DJ Rollipolli. Bombs Away Café, 2527 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 9:30 p.m. $2. April Fool’s show. I’ve heard you should beware of the “joy buzzer & smooth grooves.” Challenge accepted? I think so. For more information, visit bombsawaycafe.com/music-art/.

Sunday, April 2

D what varieties “work best in the Pacific Northwest, preparation for planting, feeding, pest prevention, and many other tips and pointers for having your best potato season ever!” Or your first potato season, ever! For info, visit shonnards.com/events/.

Beavers Women’s Rowing. Oregon State University, 1500 Sw Jefferson Ave., Corvallis. 9am.

There may not be any hoops or touchdowns flying about all willy-nilly, but this is one heck of a grueling and exciting sport. Don’t know much about rowing? Even better. You can find out more and look at schedules and ticket prices at http://osubeavers.com.

Monday, April 3

A Story About Snakes, Scents, and Sex. LaSells Stewart Center, Construction & Engineering Hall, 875 SW 26th St., Corvallis. Reception: 6:30 p.m.; Lecture: 7 p.m.

With a title like that, what’s not to love? Okay, so it could use some Sasquatch in there. Still, this is a must-attend event. Enjoy a lecture by renowned chemical ecology expert and Professor of Integrative Biology Robert Mason, complete with “a glimpse into the fascinating world of how snakes—often in a ratio of 100 males to every one female—depend exclusively on pheromones released to trigger the mating dance.” Is this where I insert that Indiana Jones quote? No… not gonna do it. Difficult to fight… the… urge. For info, visit calendar.oregonstate.edu/event/124350/.

Bryson Skaar. Imagine Coffee, 5460 SW Philomath Blvd, Corvallis. 7:00 p.m. Free.

Local piano guru Bryson Skaar tickles those ivories and ebonies. Always a great performance – and as a bonus, you can enjoy some of the best coffee in town. For more information, visit http://imaginecoffee.net.

Tuesday, April 4

Graphic Novel Book Club Meeting. Library’s Board Room, Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Free.

This time around the discussion centers on Aya: Life in Yop City by Marguerite Abouet. New members always welcome. As always, you can scope out this month’s reading selection at the second-floor reference desk of the library. For more info, visit cbcpubliclibrary.net.

Yoga on Tap. Mazama Brewery, 33930 SE Eastgate Cr., Corvallis. 6:30 p.m. Cost: $15 includes yoga and your first tap of Mazama beer. For ages 21+ only.

Though my idea of yoga involves a certain Street Fighter than can do fiery barrel rolls and smack you upside the head from 10 feet away, this version of yoga has beer, so… check mate, I suppose. Mazama Brewing Company presents Yoga on Tap: a 60-minute yoga practice, complete with a pint of some of the best beer I’ve ever had (oh my word, their Grand Cru…). No beer experience necessary, just an open mind, a yoga mat, and water. For info and advance registration, visit squareup.com/store/UrbanYoga.

Wednesday, April 5

Gratitude. Bombs Away Café, 2527 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 8:30 p.m. Free.

Not to make a terrible joke here (though of course I’m no stranger), you’ll be feeling quite a bit of gratitude to this band after you see them perform. Found online at http://gratitudejazzband.com/, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist (or another kind of scientist) to recognize this kind of talent. If you’re a fan of jazz, this is definitely a local act to pay attention to. For more information, visit bombsawaycafe.com/music-art/.

Death Café Corvallis. Interzone, 1563 NW Monroe Ave. 6 p.m. Free. “Got thoughts about mortality? Come talk truth to death. Death Café Corvallis is simply in order to listen and talk about death. For info, visit www.facebook.com/groups/deathcafecorvallisor email [email protected].

Rusty Hinges. Calapooia Brewing Company, 140 Hill St. NE, Albany. 7:30 p.m. Free.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you like bluegrass, you like Rusty Hinges. Never heard of them? Doesn’t matter, you like them. Don’t fight me on this, just treat yourself. For more banjo-packed info, visit calapooiabrewing.com/blog/live-music-and-events/.
